The Survey of Education and Work was conducted across Australia in May 2019 as a supplement to the monthly Labour Force Survey. It provides information on participation in education, educational attainment, transitions from education to work, and apprenticeships.

In 2019:

  • Two-thirds of Australians aged 15-64 years were fully engaged in work and/or study (66% or 10.8 million people).
  • One-fifth of 15-64 year olds were currently studying (19% or 3.2 million people).
  • Six in ten school leavers were enrolled in further study (59% or 176,900 people).
  • Two-thirds of people aged 20-64 years had a non-school qualification (68% or 10.1 million people), with rates for men and women gradually converging over the past 15 years.
