How to apply for Indigenous graduate roles

Indigenous graduates at the ABS
The ABS is participating in the Australian Government Graduate Program (AGGP) – Indigenous Graduate Pathway. The AGGP is a whole-of-Government program that lets you apply for one stream and have access to multiple Australian Government and Commonwealth agencies. You no longer need to submit multiple job applications. You could work at the ABS if found suitable in your application for the AGGP stream.
The ABS encourages applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our workplace culture is inclusive, respectful and embraces diversity.
At the ABS you can contribute to change, by generating and delivering data to inform important decisions that improve the economic, health and social opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities around Australia. There are many areas you can work in the ABS, these include corporate and strategy, innovation, research and design, technology and security and data and statistics.
Ideally, we are looking for graduates with a passion for working with data but we also offer placements in corporate roles including HR, communications, finance, accounting and ICT.
Working at the ABS offers you the best of both worlds, balance working from home with time in our offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Geelong, Darwin, Perth, Canberra, Adelaide and Hobart. Our flexible working arrangements means you can keep doing the things you love outside of work, like care for family or playing sports. Our inclusive workplace culture gives you the opportunity to be apart of various social employee networks including the Yakeen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employee Network, helping you stay connected and develop new meaningful connections across the country and work areas. The ABS is a place where your culture is embraced, you can contribute, participate and grow through great initiatives like NAIDOC week and National Reconciliation Week celebrations, our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and First Nations Career Development Program.
Applications for the Australian Government Graduate Program (AGGP) – Indigenous Graduate Pathway open on 6 March to 12 April 2023. To apply for this stream, see Indigenous Graduate Pathway.
While the formal program begins in February 2024, many of our graduates are given the opportunity to start as a non-ongoing or permanent employee earlier. Your availability to start early will have no bearing on your assessment of suitability.
