All arrivals - provisional estimates monthly

Provisional statistics on international travel movements of persons arriving in Australia. It is the number of international border crossings rather than the number of people.


Key statistics

All overseas arrivals to Australia in June 2020 (provisional estimates):

• 25,800 estimated trips, 14,100 of these are Australian citizens
• 32.8% increase compared to the previous month and a 98.4% decrease compared to the corresponding month of the previous year
• 10.6% of all arrivals were New Zealand citizens, the largest group apart from Australian citizens returning home
• 8.5% of all arrivals were those arriving on permanent skilled visas.

All arrivals - by citizenship

The five largest countries of citizenship (excluding Australian) for all arrivals to Australia in June 2020 were:

• New Zealand (2,700), increasing 18.0% compared to the previous month
• India (1,400), increasing 4.6%
• China (1,200), increasing 92.5%
• UK (800), increasing 47.9%
• USA (460), increasing 53.4%.

The three largest visa groups arriving in Australia in June 2020 were:

• Permanent skilled visas (2,200), increasing 33.9% compared to the previous month
• Temporary other visas (2,100), increasing 120.9%
• Permanent other visas (1,800), increasing 49.5%.

All arrivals - by state or territory of clearance

All international travellers must be processed and cleared by Australia's Border Force via specific seaports or airports around the country. This information provides the state or territory of clearance for each traveller.

For June 2020 when comparing to the previous month, increases were recorded for:

• NT (331.9%)
• Qld (109.9%)
• WA (50.3%)
• ACT (42.3%)
• NSW (19.7%)
• Vic. (7.5%)
