How to create an ABS Business Reporting account and connect your accounting software

This page will help you to get started with ABS Business Reporting. It shows how to:

  • create an account
  • log in
  • connect your accounting software
  • disconnect your accounting software 
  • sync accounting data.

Currently, only eligible small businesses are able to report through ABS Business Reporting. Further information on who can report can be found on the About ABS Business Reporting page.

Create an account

Eligible businesses can create an ABS Business Reporting account by either using their email address, or by using their Xero account credentials.

The first time you use ABS Business Reporting you will need to create an account, even if you already have an ABS Survey Account that you have used to report for other ABS surveys. Credentials for your ABS Survey Account will not work for ABS Business Reporting.

Create an account using your email address

1. Click 'Sign up' on the ABS Business Reporting landing page.

2. Enter your name, phone number and email address and press 'Next'.

3. A verification link will be sent to your email address. You will need to click this link to finalise creating your account.

Create an account with your Xero account credentials

1. Click 'Sign up' on the ABS Business Reporting landing page.

2. Click 'Log in with Xero'.

3. Enter your Xero credentials and press 'Log in'.

4. Enter your authentication code if you have set up two factor authentication and press 'Confirm'.

Log in

Log in using your ABS Business Reporting account

1. Click 'Log in' on the ABS Business Reporting landing page.

2. Enter the email you used to create your ABS Business Reporting account and press 'Send me an email' to receive a verification email. If you have previously logged in using your Xero account credentials you can use the email associated with your Xero account.

3. Press the link in your verification email to log in.

1. Click 'Log in' on the ABS Business Reporting landing page.

2. Click 'Log in with Xero'.

3. Enter your Xero credentials and press 'Log in'.

4. Enter your authentication code if you have set up two factor authentication and press 'Confirm'.

Connect your accounting software

Connecting for Xero users

The first time you log in you will have the option to connect your accounting software.

1. Click 'Continue with Xero'. If you have logged in to the app using your ABS account you will need to log into your Xero account here.

2. Use the drop down to select the business you want to report for. If you have only one business it will automatically be selected. Make sure to read over the information that ABS Business Reporting will access. ABS Business Reporting does not offer customisation of what data is accessed.

3. Press ‘Allow access’. This will link your accounting software with ABS Business Reporting. 

4. You can now begin reporting for this business in ABS Business Reporting.

Connecting for MYOB users

The first time you log in you will have an option to connect your accounting software.  

1. Click ‘Continue with MYOB’.

2. Sign into MYOB using your MYOB account credentials.

3. Enter your authentication code if you have set up two factor authentication.

4. Read over the information that ABS Business reporting will have access to.

5. Press ‘Allow access’. This will link your accounting software with ABS Business Reporting.

6. Use the drop down to select the business to select the business you want to report for and read over the information that ABS Business Reporting will access. ABS Business Reporting does not offer customisation of what data is accessed.

7. Press ‘Connect business’.

8. You can now begin reporting for this business in ABS Business Reporting.

Connecting for QuickBooks users

The first time you log in you will have an option to connect your accounting software.  

1. Click ‘Continue with QuickBooks’.

2. Sign into QuickBooks using your QuickBooks account credentials.

3. Enter your authentication code if you have set up two factor authentication.

4. Use the drop down to select the business you want to report for and read over the information that ABS Business Reporting will access. ABS Business Reporting does not offer customisation of what data is accessed.

5. Press 'Connect'. This will link your accounting software with ABS Business Reporting.

6. You can now begin reporting for this business in ABS Business Reporting.

Disconnect your accounting software

You can disconnect your accounting software from ABS Business Reporting at any time. 

If you disconnect a business you will no longer be able to access previously submitted reports or submit new reports for that business. If you disconnect all businesses you will be unable to access ABS Business Reporting unless you authorise another business.

1. Press ‘Manage connections’ in the sidebar of your dashboard.

a) Press ‘Disconnect business’ next to an active business

or

b) Press the ellipsis then ‘Disconnect business’ next to an authorised business to confirm the business’ removal. 

Note: after disconnecting a MYOB business from within ABS Business Reporting, MYOB will still show a connection to ABS Business Reporting. Please visit MYOB Account - Authorisation to log into your MYOB account and disconnect. 

Disconnect a business from within your accounting software

Xero

You can disconnect from ABS Business Reporting from within Xero. Please visit Update, disconnect or review connected apps – Xero Central for instructions. 

 

MYOB

You can disconnect from ABS Business Reporting from within MYOB. Please visit MYOB Account - Authorisation to log into your MYOB account and disconnect. If you have disconnected a MYOB business from within ABS Business Reporting, MYOB will still show a connection to ABS Business Reporting until you disconnect at this link.

QuickBooks

You can disconnect from ABS Business Reporting from within QuickBooks. Please visit the QuickBooks website for instructions.

 

Sync accounting data

Your accounting data will sync with ABS Business Reporting whenever you open a report from your dashboard. You can also manually sync your data when you are in a report by pressing the ‘Sync’ button.

ABS Business Reporting only reads data from your accounting software and does not send data to your accounting software.
