Complete monthly CPI now released

The first complete Monthly Consumer Price Index publication, for the October 2025 reference month, has now been released. This publication marks the transition from the quarterly CPI to the Monthly CPI as Australia’s primary measure of headline inflation.

Transitioning to a complete Monthly CPI

The Government’s investment in the ABS enabled us to take the next key steps of a 10-year plan to modernise our statistical systems and data collection activities, strengthen our data security and deliver more timely and reliable economic insights.

Not only will the complete Monthly CPI support better understanding of economic conditions, it also brings Australia in line with all other G20 countries who all produce their inflation data on a monthly basis. This allows for improved international comparability.

The ABS has worked closely with key stakeholders across Government, the private sector and academia to ensure the complete Monthly CPI is of high quality and meets Australia’s economic data needs.

We would like to thank everyone, including Australian businesses that have provided data more frequently and who have worked with us to support the introduction of the complete Monthly CPI.
