Complete monthly measure of the CPI

The transition from a quarterly to a monthly CPI requires enhanced data management, driving the development of new data analytic tools and capability. Over the past 18 months under BDTI2, we have made significant progress toward implementing a new CPI production system. We remain on track to release the first complete monthly CPI in late 2025. 

The ABS will continue engaging with stakeholders and providing regular updates throughout the transition. Key upcoming milestones include:

May-June 2025: Release of information on the aggregation approach and new administrative data sources.

July 2025: Publication of detailed technical papers covering:

• method changes and statistical impacts
• integration of new administrative data
• data series to be published and
• mock data tables for user reference.
