How this variable is created

This variable is derived from responses to the long-term health conditions question and 'Child under 15 years' categories of the relationship in the household (RLHP) variable.

If all resident children under 15 years in the household did not answer the long-term health conditions question, this variable is set to 'Not stated'.

If some resident children aged under 15 years in the household did not answer the long-term health conditions question, this variable is set to 'Some children in household had a not stated long-term health condition'.

History and changes

This variable was first introduced in 2021.

In 2026, long-term health conditions was updated to include 'Liver disease'. This variable has been updated to align with the Census definition of a child. See relationship in the household (RLHP).

This variable no longer includes visitors who were aged under 15 years.
