This variable is created from usual address indicator (UAICP), Indigenous status (INGP) and family composition (FMCF). It is created by identifying whether at least one person in a family is:
Categories are derived in the following way, using responses to INGP:
‘Family with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person(s)’:
‘Families with non-Indigenous persons only’:
‘Families with an Indigenous status not stated’
Persons temporarily absent are excluded from this variable.
This variable was introduced in 2021.
In 2026, categories were updated to separate families with non-Indigenous persons only from families with persons where Indigenous status was ‘Not stated’. Updates to the output category labels were made to reflect this and a new category of ‘Families with an Indigenous status not stated’ was added.
