In the 2016 Census, there were 32,180 people in Australia who were born in Turkey. Of these 52.1% were male and 47.9% were female.

Of the population born in Turkey who usually live in Australia, 2.4% were aged 0 - 14 years and 16.6% were aged 65 years and over. The median age of people in Australia who were born in Turkey was 48 years.

Of people in Australia aged 15 years and over who were born in Turkey, 63.3% were married, 6.4% were separated, and 13.0% were divorced.

In Australia of people who were born in Turkey, the most common responses to the religion question were Islam 64.1%, No Religion, so described 18.7%, Oriental Orthodox 2.4%, Eastern Orthodox 2.3% and Catholic 1.7%.

Employment

The median monthly mortgage repayment was $1,733 and the median weekly rent paid was $346.

All occupants of a private dwelling complete one census form and are counted as a household. 'Born in Turkey' includes households in Australia where at least one person was born in Turkey. Of those households, 79.1% were one family households and 13.2% were lone person households.
