In seasonally adjusted terms:

• Total dwellings commenced fell 11.2% to 48,012 dwellings.
• New private sector houses commenced fell 3.5% to 27,658 dwellings.
• New private sector other residential commencements fell 20.7% to 19,116 dwellings.
• The value of total building work done rose 0.7% to $44.8b.

The June 2026 seasonally adjusted estimate: 

• Total dwellings approved rose 7.2% to 18,328.
• Private sector houses rose 0.4% to 10,631, and private sector dwellings excluding houses rose 17.8% to 7,138.
• The value of total residential building rose 15.1% to $11.75b.
• The value of total non-residential building fell 24.7% to $8.26b. 

Provides final estimates of value of construction work done, in chain volume measures

In seasonally adjusted terms in the June quarter:

• Total construction work done fell 2.1% to $82.5b
• Building work done rose 1.3% to $45.8b
• Engineering work done fell 6.0% to $36.7b

The trend estimate for total construction work done rose 0.7% to $82.0b

In the March quarter:

• seasonally adjusted work done rose 7.1%
• seasonally adjusted work done for the private sector rose 15.9%
• value of work commenced decreased 6.2% in original terms
• trend work done decreased 0.7%

• Australia’s dwelling stock was 10,879,349 dwellings at 30 June 2022.

• The net quarterly growth was 38,535 dwellings (0.4%), comprising 45,522 dwelling additions and 6,987 dwelling removals.

• The net quarterly growth of houses, townhouses and apartments was 23,456 (0.3%), 6,713 (0.5%) and 8,361 (0.5%) respectively. 

• 80.6% of in-scope land parcels were zoned residential, with 600 - 800 square metres the most common size
• 59.5% of new dwellings in-scope were approved for land zoned residential, with 200 - 400 square metres the most common area per dwelling
