The Managed Funds industry as at 31 March 2020 had $3,718.2b funds under management, comprised of:

* Resident investment managers placements with other resident investment managers are deducted when deriving the size of the total managed funds industry

Superannuation (pension) funds

Total unconsolidated assets of superannuation funds fell $207.9b (-6.9%) to $2,823.9b during the March quarter

Key movements were as follows:

units in trusts fell $124.0b (-11.4%)
shares fell $110.9b (-23.0%)
deposits rose $35.5b (15.2%)
assets overseas fell $17.3b (-3.2%)
derivatives rose $16.4b (53.6%)

Public offer (retail) unit trusts

Total unconsolidated assets of public offer (retail) trusts fell $15.6b (-3.8%) to $397.2b during the March quarter

Key movements were as follows:

units in trusts fell $8.7b (-9.0%)
shares fell $7.5b (-19.8%)
assets overseas fell $4.3b (-6.6%)
deposits rose $2.6b (38.8%)
derivatives rose $1.7b (47.9%)

Life insurance

Total unconsolidated assets of life insurance corporations fell $18.0b (-8.8%) to $187.3b during the March quarter

Key movements were as follows:

units in trusts fell $19.3b (-16.4%)
shares fell $1.7b (-8.4%)
derivatives rose $1.1b (78.5%)
bonds, etc. rose $0.7b (2.6%)
