Brenton Goldsworthy

Brenton Goldsworthy, Deputy Australian Statistician

Brenton Goldsworthy is the Deputy Australian Statistician leading the Insights and Statistics Group. The Insights and Statistics Group has responsibility for coordinating the end-to-end delivery of data services for our clients. This includes producing demographic, economic and social statistics, and the Census. 

Brenton joined the ABS in May 2023 from Treasury, where he held a number of roles including First Assistant Secretary of the Budget Policy Division, head of economic forecasting, and senior representative at the Australian Embassy in Tokyo. Brenton was also the First Assistant Secretary of the Economic Division at Prime Minister and Cabinet, where he supported the Government’s economic response to COVID-19. Brenton also worked at the International Monetary Fund during a 5-year period which included the Global Financial Crisis. Brenton holds a Masters of Economics from the University of Melbourne and a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours from the University of Adelaide.

People and Place Division

Bindi Kindermann

Bindi Kindermann, General Manager

Bindi Kindermann is a member of the ABS’ Executive Team, leading the People and Place Division. 

Bindi brings more than 15 years’ experience as a senior leader in the Australian Public Service and over 9 years at the senior executive level.  Bindi has a deep interest in the policy challenges facing Australia and a track record in modernising the public sector response to those challenges, particularly in relation to conceptual frameworks, change management, governance and data and digital approaches. 

Bindi was responsible for the successful delivery of the 2021 Census of Population and Housing at the Australian Bureau of Statistics.  The 2021 Census is commonly referred to as Australia’s largest peacetime exercise and online event, and the 2021 Census widely heralded as the most inclusive and accessible Census ever, achieving over a 95% response rate despite being undertaken during the delta COVID lockdowns.

Bindi has held several leadership roles at the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the Department of Health and Aged Care, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, NSW Government, and the University of Canberra.

Economy and Environment Division

Jacqui Vitas

Jacqui Vitas, General Manager

Jacqui Vitas is the General Manager of The Economy and Environment Division.  

Jacqui began her official statistics career in 1997, initially at the United Kingdom’s Office for National Statistics (ONS), and since 2016, at the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). Her first role involved work on the 2001 population census, after which she spent nearly a decade in the ONS Methodology Directorate. 

Since 2010, Jacqui has held senior positions in economic statistics, covering areas such as National Accounts, Balance of Payments, Financial Accounts, Public Finance, Labour Statistics and Business Surveys.  Since 2023, she has also overseen the ABS’s environmental-economic accounting programme.  

Jacqui has contributed to a number of international projects and books. She co-authored (as Jacqui Jones) ‘Designing and Conducting Business Surveys’; co-edited ‘Advances in Business Statistics Methods and Data Collection; and co-edited the ‘Handbook for Monitoring and Evaluating Business Surveys Response Burdens’. She is the Executive Sponsor for the ABS and Statistics Indonesia (BPS) partnership; a member of the United Nations Network of Economic Statisticians; and in 2025 was elected as co-chair of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Environmental-Economic Accounts (UNCEEA).

Jacqui has a BA (Hons) in Social Policy Administration and an MSc in Social Research.

Prices and Transformation Division

Andrew Tomadini

Andrew Tomadini*, General Manager

Andrew Tomadini is the Acting General Manager of the Prices and Transformation Division. In this role, he is responsible for the production of all prices statistics and for leading the ABS’ key transformation program – Big Data, Timely Insights (BDTI).  BDTI is a significant investment in and transformation of the ABS’ data and digital capability and will allow the ABS to produce statistics and new insights using modern data and analytic tools in a scaled cloud environment.

Census and Population Division

Jenny Telford

Jenny Telford, General Manager

Jenny Telford is the General Manager of the Census and Population Statistics Division. In this role, she oversees the design, planning, and execution of the 2026 Census, and the production of high-quality population statistics for Australia.

With over 25 years of experience in the public sector, Jenny has held various senior roles and is dedicated to delivering high-quality data to support informed decision-making across all aspects of the Australian economy and society.

Jenny played a key role in the leadership team during the planning and operation of the 2011 and 2016 Censuses, where she was responsible for program management, communications, data processing and quality assurance. She led numerous projects as part of a large-scale technology and business process transformation at the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). This included the successful delivery of a new ABS website and the development of innovative solutions to enhance the production, discovery, access, and use of statistical data and information.

More recently, as the head of ABS communications, Jenny managed media and citizen engagement through various channels including social media, and a range of strategic communication initiatives.

Jenny holds a degree in IT and Business Management from Southern Cross University.
