Occupation Standard Classification for Australia (OSCA) Collection Notice

This Collection Notice explains the collection and use of personal information as part of public consultations in 2025 and 2026 on the Occupation Standard Classification for Australia (OSCA).
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is consulting on how OSCA should be maintained. Feedback from this process will inform the OSCA maintenance strategy and future content updates.

Who is collecting your personal information?

Your personal information is being collected by the ABS and the ABS’s technology service provider Delib, who support a third party platform called Citizen Space. The Privacy Notice for the Consultation Hub explains how the ABS uses Delib and Citizen Space and how Delib will collect, safeguard, and process your data on behalf of the ABS. The ABS is the data controller and Delib is the data processor.

What personal information is collected?

For OSCA consultations, the ABS will collect the following personal information provided as part of your submission:

  • First name and last name (required)
  • Organisation (if applicable)
  • Email address (required)
  • Phone number (optional)
  • State (optional)
  • Responses to consultation questions (required)

How will your personal information be managed?

The collected information will be stored in secure data centres in Australia. The hosting provider for Delib is Amazon Web Services (AWS). Delib and Citizen Space meet all Australian Government privacy and data storage requirements.

The ABS will extract your survey submission from the Consultation Hub within one month of the consultation’s close. Authorised ABS staff will store your survey submission separately in the secure ABS environment for record keeping purposes.

As the hosting provider, Delib will only access your personal information when requested to do so by the ABS, and only if necessary for the purpose of assisting with the administration of the site.

How will your submission be managed?

Your survey submission will be deleted from Delib’s data stores no later than one month following the closure of the consultation.

The ABS will retain your survey submission and personal information in the secure ABS environment for record keeping purposes in accordance with the relevant Records Authority and applicable legislation.

The ABS complies with the Privacy Act 1988 and the Archives Act 1983 in the storage, collection, access, use, disclosure, retention and destruction of your personal information.

How will your submission and personal information be used?

The ABS will use your survey submission to support OSCA maintenance and updates, including the development of the OSCA maintenance strategy.

Your de-identified submission may be shared with related stakeholder groups. If you have identified that you are providing a submission on behalf of an organisation, the ABS may share the information in your submission to an alternative contact within your organisation, if there are legitimate reasons to do so.

The ABS may also use your name, organisation and email address to contact you for follow-up questions in relation to OSCA maintenance and updates. Follow-up allows the ABS to clarify the information provided where necessary and ensures that any negative impacts are minimised or mitigated.

We will also email you updates about OSCA using the provided email address. You can revoke your consent to receive these updates by clicking the ‘unsubscribe’ link at the bottom of the email or by emailing us at updating.anzsco@abs.gov.au.

Except for Delib in their data processing role, the ABS will not:

  • share information in a way that would identify you without your consent
  • share information with private organisations, such as direct marketing companies
  • share information with other government agencies for compliance or regulation activities

unless required or authorised by or under an Australian law.

How to access and correct your personal information

Contact the ABS Privacy Officer using the details provided below if you need to access or correct your personal information. If the information you provided in your submission changes, you can contact the ABS on 1800 482 517.
