Statistics using the Life Course Dataset
ABS statistical program
The ABS Statistical Program will publish statistics to support a better understanding of children's experiences and outcomes across Australia, from birth to 14 years of age. These products will be developed using the Life Course Dataset. They will include a range of outputs, such as articles, interactive maps, and information papers, designed to be accessible and relevant to a diverse range of users.
The products will provide insights into:
- Children’s distance to schools, GPs, hospitals and childcare
- Child mobility patterns
- Population and household characteristics
Some products will draw on new data developments, including an experimental indicator of child disadvantage which incorporates measures relevant to children’s social, economic, and educational wellbeing.
Where possible, information will be provided at the community level to support more informed local decision-making, policy and research.
This program is shaped by consultation with researchers, policy makers and jurisdictional partners, in addition to communities and community organisations – supported through the Community program.
New products from the ABS statistical program will be released from 2026.
