The Multi Purpose Household Survey (MPHS) was conducted in Australia from July 2005 to June 2006. With the exception of the Work related injuries topic, data for each topic were obtained from one randomly selected person aged 15 years or over in 14,219 private dwelling households across Australia (excluding very remote areas). For the Work related injuries topic, data were obtained from an additional 15,016 private dwelling households (a total of 29,235 private dwelling households) to improve the reliability of the estimates.
The 2005-06 MPHS collected data on five topics: Household use of information technology; Participation in sport and physical activity; Attendance at selected culture and leisure venues and events; Sports attendance; Work-related injuries.
The Household use of information technology topic collected data on personal and household access to computers and the Internet. Information on locations of use, the purpose and frequency of access to the Internet and technology used to access the Internet were also collected.
The Participation in sport and physical activity topic collected information about people's involvement in sports and related activities including the type of activities undertaken, the frequency and regularity of participation, whether participation was organised or informal, and some of the reasons for participating or deciding not to participate.
The Attendance at selected culture and leisure venues and events topic collected data on how often respondents visited or attended selected venues or events over a 12 month period.
The Sports attendance topic complements information on Attendance at culture and leisure venues and events providing information on whether people have attended a sports event during a 12 month period.
The Work-related injuries topic collected information about persons aged 15 years and over who worked at some time in the previous 12 months and who experienced a work related injury or illness. Information on people's most recent work-related injury or illness, whether they suffered the injury or illness in their previous or current job, the type of injury they experienced, how the injury or illness occurred were also collected.
A number of socio-demographic data items were also collected and will be included on the CURF, including capital city/rest of state identifiers for the six states, state/territory identifiers, age, sex, marital status, remoteness, index of relative socioeconomic index of disadvantage and index of advantage/disadvantage, birthplace and year of arrival in Australia; labour force details including occupation, industry and hours worked; educational qualifications, and details of weekly income by fine level source of income for the randomly selected person and their household.
The Expanded CURF can be accessed via the ABS Remote Access Data Laboratory (RADL).
