The 1997 Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing of Adults, Western Australia, was a follow-on survey from the 1997 National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing of Adults. The survey was conducted in Western Australia from September 1997 to May 1998.

The 1997 Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing of Adults, Western Australia CURF contains data on 3,407 persons. Information contained in each record covers a range of socio-demographic and mental health variables including: mental health region (grouped): household type; age; sex; marital status; birthplace; year of arrival in Australia; labour force characteristics; and education characteristics. Data are provided on selected major mental disorders, namely Depression; Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, Panic Disorder and Other Anxiety Disorders; Alcohol - Dependence, Alcohol - Harmful Use and Other Drug Use Disorders. Broad information is provided on symptoms and behaviours to support the diagnosis of these selected disorders from the Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI). Limited additional information is provided on organic mental disorders and from screening questions for psychosis and personality disorders. In addition, information is provided on several general measures of mental health and wellbeing; chronic physical conditions; and health service utilisation. Mental disorders identified on the file have been classified in accordance with the International Classification of Diseases - 10th revision. The file also includes 30 sets of survey weights (replicates) to enable users to analyse data taking account of the effect of survey design and to calculate relative standard errors.
