Survey of Business Conditions and Sentiments

This is a short monthly survey. If you are completing it online we estimate it will take approximately 5–10 minutes. 

Once logged into your survey account, the Survey of Business Conditions and Sentiments may already be available in your ‘My Surveys’ list.   

If not, use the Form Access Code we provided in your email or letter to add the survey to your account. 

For this survey, you should have received a letter with a Form Access Code to access your survey form online. Set up, or log in to your secure ABS Survey Account and add your Form Access Code to access the survey form.

Once the survey is added to your account, you can select ‘Delegate’ to reassign it to the right person in your business or organisation to complete. 

Every month, the ABS will send a reminder to complete your survey. The same account can be used to access and answer future surveys. When completing your form, if exact figures are not available, please provide careful estimates.

The Survey of Business Conditions and Sentiments is a short monthly survey, and we estimate it will take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete. 

If you received a reminder letter, you may have completed your survey around the same time it was sent. If you’d like to check, please call us on 1800 642 149 between 9:00am and 7:00pm AEST, Monday to Friday. 

The short survey asks about how businesses are responding to changing conditions and global events including: 

• changes in revenue and operating expenses
• supply chain disruptions
• changes to business operations, workforce and capital investment plans.

This survey is answered by a randomly selected group of businesses or organisations that represent the wider Australian business community. Responses are collected from a diverse range of industries and business sizes, as each is uniquely impacted by changing economic conditions and current global events. Information from businesses of all sizes is particularly important for producing statistics at the State and Territory level.

If the business you are reporting for has ceased operating, did not operate during the reference period, has gone into liquidation, or was sold during the reference period, please contact us so that we can determine the correct course of action for this business. 

The information in this survey is collected under the authority of the Census and Statistics Act 1905. The Act ensures that information is kept strictly confidential and only used for statistical purposes. If your response is delayed, we may follow up with you. We can also help if you are having any difficulties completing the survey.

The ABS takes the privacy and security of your information very seriously. 

We use your survey responses to produce statistics, which we release as summary data that does not identify any business or organisation. In some cases, detailed statistics might relate to a single holding. If you are concerned your holding could be identified, you can ask us to further aggregate your data.
