The value of total construction work done rose 3.4% to $83,360.6m in the March quarter, in seasonally adjusted terms. Engineering work rose 6.9% in the March quarter and is 4.7% higher than the same time last year. Building work done rose 0.6% in the March quarter and is 7.8% higher than the same time last year.
The trend estimate for total construction work done rose 0.5% in the March quarter.
Mining projects tend to be complex in structure and comprise a number of different investment activities including exploration, engineering construction, plant and equipment and buildings. Non-residential building increased by 2.5% and residential building decreased by 0.6% in the March quarter. Non-residential building work done is 11.2% higher than at the same time last year. Residential building work done is 5.6% higher than at the same time last year.
