This Microdata product provides information from the 2012-13 Family Characteristics and Transitions Survey, in the form of a TableBuilder. The statistics available on the TableBuilder were compiled from the Family Characteristics and Transitions topic in the Multipurpose Household Survey (MPHS), which was conducted as a supplement to the ABS Monthly Population Survey (MPS), from July 2012 to June 2013.

This product provides information on household and family composition including demographic, labour force and family types. A particular focus is families with children aged 0 -17 years, including information about family structure, and children with a natural parent living elsewhere. The release also provides data on the forming of marital relationships, the number of children born and expectations of having children in the future, experiences of leaving the family home, and death and divorce of parents for persons aged 18 years and over. A detailed list of data items is available on the Downloads tab.

This microdata enables users to tabulate, manipulate and analyse data. Steps to confidentialise the dataset are taken to ensure the integrity of data and maintain confidentiality of respondents. This includes removing any information that might uniquely identify an individual, reducing the level of detail for some items and collapsing some categories.
