The Australian Statistician has established the Audit and Risk Committee in accordance with Section 45 of the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act), and Section 17 of the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Rule 2014 (PGPA Rule).
The ABS Audit and Risk Committee's Charter sets out the functions of the Committee which include: reviewing the appropriateness of the Australian Statistician’s financial reporting; performance reporting; system of risk oversight and management; and system of internal control.
The Audit and Risk Committee reviews the appropriateness of this Charter at least annually, and recommends any substantive changes for consideration by the Australian Statistician.
Since it was last updated in September 2020, the Charter incorporates further changes to better reflect current Audit and Risk Committee practices, amendments to the PGPA Rule 2014, and to appropriately reflect the roles described in the model Audit Committee Charter developed by the Department of Finance. The Charter also reflects the renaming of the Committee to 'Audit and Risk Committee'.
