Rent (weekly) Dollar Values
This data quality statement applies to
Rent (weekly) Dollar Values (RNTD), and Rent (weekly) Ranges (RNTRD)
Rent (weekly) Dollar Values (RNTD, RNTRD)This variable records the amount of rent paid by a household on a weekly basis for the dwelling in which they were enumerated on Census Night. The non-response rate for Rent (weekly) Dollar Values (RNTD) was 3.8% (3.6% in 2006). A contributing factor to non-response are the 1.2% of dwellings being rented where the "Nil payments" box was marked. For these dwellings RNTD is treated as not stated. More information is available from the 2011 Census non-response quality statement. This data item is applicable to occupied private dwellings being rented, or being occupied rent free, which represents 28.7% of all occupied private dwellings. If rental payment responses are recorded as fortnightly or monthly amounts they are derived to a weekly figure. Household payments data is automatically captured from numeric text responses. This process is subject to some recognition error, particularly when responses incorrectly include cents and the decimal point is missing or unclear. All responses ending in '00' were checked for recognition error, as were other unlikely values. While the data is subject to normal sample checks to ensure an acceptable level of quality, numeric responses are accepted as reported. Rental payments are also available in ranges Rent (weekly) Ranges (RNTRD). The categories for the dollar ranges have been revised for the 2011 Census. Some codes have also been amended. More information on RNTD is available in the 2011 Census Dictionary (cat. no. 2901.0).
