Example tables

Examples of tables that can be created

This page contains a few examples of the types of tables that can be created in TableBuilder using the SEIFA variables.

Table 1. Need for assistance (ASSNP) by IRSD SA1 decile, Australia *

* IRSD = Index of Relative Socio-Economic Disadvantage; SA1 = Statistical Areas Level 1; ASSNP = Census variable 'Core activity need for assistance'.

Table 1 demonstrates the ability to observe relationships between a variable of interest (in this case 'Need for Assistance') and the relative disadvantage of the area in which a person lives. Table 1 clearly shows that disadvantaged areas contain more people with need for assistance with core activities.

Table 2. Number of people in IRSD SA1 deciles for selected Victorian LGAs *

* IRSD = Index of Relative Socio-Economic Disadvantage; SA1 = Statistical Areas Level 1; LGA = Local Government Area.

Table 2 demonstrates the ability to create tables that present the distribution of socio-economic characteristics within larger areas such as Local Government Areas (LGAs). It shows that within LGAs, there are often people living in disadvantaged SA1s and also people living in advantaged SA1s. This table is very similar to the SA1 distribution spreadsheets released in Census of Population and Housing: Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas (cat. no. 2033.0.55.001), but lists number of people rather than number of areas.

Table 3. Number of unemployed people looking for full-time work in IRSD SA1 deciles for selected Victorian LGAs *

* IRSD = Index of Relative Socio-Economic Disadvantage; SA1 = Statistical Areas Level 1; LGA = Local Government Area; LFSP = Census variable 'Labour Force Status'.

Table 3 is similar to Table 2, but demonstrates that the analysis can become more detailed by focussing on a particular subject (in this case unemployment).
