One week until Census night

2 August 2011 | SA/40

With one week to go until Census night South Australian Collectors, ranging in age from 18 to 84 are half-way through their delivery of Census forms.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) will conduct the Census of Population and Housing on Tuesday 9 August to capture an accurate snapshot of Australia.

Census Spokesperson for South Australia, Caroline Deans says the state's 2300 Collectors have delivered approximately 50 percent of their forms, or visited nearly 400,000 households across the state.

“Don’t worry if you haven’t had a visit from your Collector yet, delivery will continue until Sunday 7 August,” Ms Deans says.

Youngest Collector for South Australia, 18 year old Alex Zamagias says he is enjoying his first time working on the Census.

“It is a great experience to learn about the Census and what it does, it helps me to learn my surrounding suburbs,” he said.

Everyone in Australia on Census night has two options to accurately complete their Census form-via the traditional paper form or online using eCensus.

Ms Deans says your Census Collector will provide the information you need to be able to participate in the Census.

“The ABS is expecting 30 per cent of the population will use the eCensus option, a fast, easy and secure alternative to the traditional paper form that is protected by the strongest encryption technology available,” Ms Deans adds.

Another advantage of using the eCensus is your Collector won’t have to return to your home to collect your form.
