SEIFA in TableBuilder

Some SEIFA 2011 variables are included in TableBuilder Pro, enabling users to cross classify a variety of Census data items by the relative advantage and disadvantage of the areas in which people live.

SEIFA 2011 consists of four indexes:
  • The Index of Relative Socio-Economic Disadvantage (IRSD)
  • The Index of Relative Socio-Economic Advantage and Disadvantage (IRSAD)
  • The Index of Education and Occupation (IEO)
  • The Index of Economic Resources (IER).

Each index is a summary of a different subset of Census variables and focuses on a different aspect of socio-economic advantage and disadvantage.

For each of the four indexes and each of the geographic levels (SA1, SA2, LGA, POA, SSC, SLA), two SEIFA-related variables are included: area-based deciles and population-based deciles. This means that 48 variables have been added to TableBuilder Pro for analysis.

The SEIFA deciles have been added to four of the databases within TableBuilder Pro:
  • Counting Persons, Place of Usual Residence
  • Counting Persons, Place of Enumeration
  • Counting Families, Place of Usual Residence
  • Counting Dwellings, Place of Enumeration.

The following pages provide information to assist users to make full use of SEIFA in TableBuilder Pro:
