All aboard for Census night tonight9 August 2011 | SA/38Census is here. The Australian Bureau of Statistics reminds everyone in South Australia, including overseas tourists and international students, to accurately complete a Census form tonight. The national Census of Population and Housing is a snapshot of the nation taken every five years and measures the number of people in Australia on Census night, their key characteristics, and the places in which they live. ABS Regional Director for South Australia Mike McGrath, speaking from Adelaide’s Keswick terminal where the Indian Pacific is about to leave on an overnight trip to Sydney, says everyone in South Australia should by now have received either a Census form or information on how to access the eCensus, the convenient online way to complete the Census. “Tonight is the night to complete your Census form, or to go online to the eCensus at www.census.gov.au with your eCensus envelope. “It doesn’t matter where you are, even if you are on the Indian Pacific going across to New South Wales tonight, please do the Census.” Approximately 1.6 million residents and an expected 20,000 tourists from overseas and interstate are expected to complete their Census in South Australia tonight. Mr McGrath says anyone with Census questions should visit www.abs.gov.au/census or call the Census Inquiry Service on 1300 338 776. From tomorrow, more than 14 million Census forms from right across Australia will start making their way to the secure ABS data processing centre in Melbourne. The first data release from the 2011 Census will be in in June 2012. |
