Census Collectors hit the streets of Brewarrina

29 July 2011 | NSW/69

Census Collectors will hit the streets and roads of Brewarrina and surrounds from today to deliver Census forms to every home, farm and township in the region to ensure every person is accurately counted in the August Census.

During the Collector recruitment process for this year’s Census, Will Swain the Census Local Engagement Manager for Western NSW worked closely with local Aboriginal communities.

“We recruited many members of the local Aboriginal community to help conduct the Census count," Will says.

"Census information plays an important role in the allocation of services and infrastructure in western NSW. It helps plan things that we use every day such as roads, housing and health services.

"To plan for the future needs of your community, decision makers need to know about every person and their needs. This is why we are making sure that everyone in every house is counted on a Census form.

"Remember, your privacy is protected by law. No government agency will ever see your answers."

Plenty of help and assistance is provided to anyone who may need help filling in their Census form, including the elderly and those with sight or literacy problems.

“If you need help just let your local Census Collector know. They can interview you and fill out your Census form for you if needed," Will adds.
