Using Census data for comparisons

Comparing data from different Censuses

At the state and national level, 2011 QuickStats will highlight key differences between 2006 and 2011 Census data.

Community Profiles and DataPacks include a Time Series profile.

You can access data from previous Censuses from the link Historical data page.

Analytical articles will include information about previous Censuses, and Reflecting a Nation includes several articles about the history of the Census.

The 5% Statistical Longitudinal Dataset will provide data from the 2006 and 2011 Censuses, brought together for analytical and research purposes. This data will be available in the last quarter of 2013.

Comparing Census data about groups of people

TableBuilder Basic allows you to select a database covering types of topics relevant to a selected group of people. For example, the Cultural and Language database was designed to focus on one or more ancestries, religions, languages etc. and can be classified by age and other characteristics in this database.

Comparing Census data for different geographic areas

QuickStats, Community Profiles and DataPacks Online allow you to access data for one geographic area at a time. You can download this data for each area you are interested in and then compare it.

DataPacks on DVD contain all the available geographic areas and can be imported into your own software or databases.

TableBuilder allows you to access all geographic areas. You can add several locations at the same geographic level to a table and compare their characteristics. You can also create and save customised geographic areas.
