Key statistics

In June quarter 2023, there were 713,000 tourism jobs. This was:

20,100 (-2.7%) less jobs than March quarter 2023
125,300 (21.3%) more jobs than June quarter 2022
44,500 (-5.9%) less jobs than December quarter 2019, prior to COVID-19 pandemic
1 in 22 (4.6%) filled jobs in the economy

cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services: decrease of 7,600 jobs (-2.9%)
education and training: increase of 7,200 jobs (19.4%)

Comparing June quarter 2022 with June quarter 2023, industries with the largest changes were:

cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services: increase of 50,000 jobs (24.3%)
retail trade: increase of 31,300 (36.3%)
education and training: increase of 16,100 jobs (57.1%)
