Applies permanent and semi-permanent cosmetic pigmentation to the skin using manual and machine techniques to create natural-looking enhancements of facial, scalp and other features.
Registration or licensing may be required.
Tattoo artists are excluded from this occupation. Tattoo artists are included in Occupation 461231 Body Artist.

Main tasks
- Consults with clients to assess skin type, discuss treatment options and design cosmetic tattooing outcomes suited to their facial features
- Selects and mixes pigments appropriate to clients' skin tone and desired outcome
- Applies cosmetic pigment to the skin using manual techniques such as microblading and feathering
- Applies cosmetic pigment using machine techniques for treatments including lip blush, eyeliner and scalp micropigmentation
- Applies cosmetic pigment to restore natural-looking areola and nipple pigmentation following mastectomy, breast reconstruction or other surgery
- Applies cosmetic pigment to camouflage scars or areas of skin pigmentation loss, restoring a natural skin tone
- Prepares treatment areas and follows infection control and skin penetration protocols in accordance with health regulations
- Manages hygiene, sterilisation, disposal and infection control requirements
- Provides clients with aftercare instructions and conducts follow-up touch-up appointments as required
