Facilitates structured dispute resolution between parties in civil, commercial, workplace, community, court-connected and other disputes, helping them to identify issues, explore options and reach voluntary agreements without imposing a binding determination.

Main tasks

  • Conducts intake, screening and suitability assessments for mediation, including risk and safety screening where appropriate
  • Designs and manages mediation processes, including preparation, individual and joint sessions, and follow up
  • Explains the mediation process, confidentiality requirements and the mediator's neutral role to participants
  • Facilitates communication and negotiation between parties to identify issues, interests and options for resolution
  • Applies mediation and conflict-resolution techniques to facilitate negotiation and decision-making by the parties
  • Maintains impartiality and procedural fairness, manages power imbalances and supports safe and respectful participation
  • Assists parties to document outcomes reached and liaises with legal or other advisers where relevant
  • Maintains records, referrals and reporting requirements in accordance with organisational, legal and ethical requirements
