Registration or licensing may be required.
Cardiac technicians and other Sonographers are excluded from this occupation. Cardiac technicians are included in Occupation 263932 Cardiac Physiologist. Other Sonographers are included in Occupation 263532 Sonographer (General).

- Performs transthoracic, transoesophageal and stress echocardiograms to assess cardiac and vascular function in patients
- Operates and maintains echocardiography and ultrasound machines according to correct protocols
- Adjusts patients position and echocardiography equipment using appropriate settings to obtain diagnostic images
- Assesses the quality of images, selecting the most relevant images for diagnosis
- Analyses images, highlights any areas of concern or abnormalities and prepares reports for Cardiologists and referring clinicians for review
- Adheres to safety protocols and infection control measures during echocardiography procedures
