Recognises, evaluates and controls workplace exposures to physical, chemical and biological hazards using scientific and analytical methods to prevent work-related disease and protect worker health.

Main tasks
- Anticipates, recognises and identifies chemical and biological hazards in workplaces, including dusts, fumes, vapours, noise, radiation and biological agents
- Conducts hazard assessments of identified risks using information concerning toxicity and exposure potential
- Designs and undertakes exposure monitoring and sampling programs, including air monitoring, noise surveys and biological monitoring
- Interprets monitoring data and exposure results against relevant standards, guidance and scientific evidence
- Advises on control measures, including elimination, substitution, engineering controls, ventilation and exposure management strategies
- Evaluates the effectiveness of controls and recommends improvements
- Provides specialist advice to duty holders, work health and safety teams, regulators and other Professionals on occupational exposure prevention and compliance
- Investigates workplace exposure incidents and emerging occupational health risks, and prepares technical reports for relevant duty holders
