Early school leavers and their later life education, employment and training experiences
Research update by Adelaide University's BetterStart Group and SA Government
Adelaide University’s BetterStart Group in partnership with the South Australian (SA) Government’s Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) is using the Life Course Dataset to investigate transitions through the education system from early childhood through to post-school outcomes, including further education, employment, training, and welfare. The project examines how these outcomes vary according to experiences of socioeconomic and health disadvantage.
The research is ongoing, with initial work focusing on early school leavers and their later life experiences with education, employment and training. As the research progresses, the Life Course Dataset will be used to explore additional research questions, including:
- What are the post-school education, employment, training, and welfare outcomes of children who start school developmentally vulnerable and/or experience low self-reported wellbeing?
- What are later life education, employment, training, and welfare outcomes following multiple school changes?
