Jobs

For September 2025:

• There were 973,000 multiple job-holders (6.5% of employed people)
• 7.6% of employed women were multiple job-holders, compared to 5.6% of employed men
• Workers aged 20-24 years old were most likely to be working multiple jobs (8.2%)
• People who were a Community and personal service worker in their main job were most likely to be a multiple job-holder (11.3%).

During 2022-23:

• There were 23.6 million jobs, up 3.8% on 2021-22.
• The Local Government Area with the highest number of jobs was Brisbane, with 1,262,500 jobs.
• 6.9 million jobs were held by migrants (who have arrived in Australia since 2000).

Seasonally adjusted estimates for August 2025:

• Total job vacancies were 327,200, a decrease of 2.7% from May 2025.
• Private sector vacancies were 288,700, a decrease of 3.4% from May 2025.
• Public sector vacancies were 38,400, an increase of 2.2% from May 2025.

During the year ending February 2025:

• the job mobility rate decreased to 7.7%
• younger workers were more mobile than older workers, with 12% of people aged 15 to 24 years changing jobs
• 2.2 million people left or lost a job
• The annual retrenchment rate was 1.9%

In the week ending 15 March 2025, payroll jobs:

• increased by 0.7% in the month from 15 February 2025
• increased by 0.2% in the year from 16 March 2024

Month change periods represent the index change between the reference week and four weeks prior, whereas annual change represents the index change from 52 weeks prior.

Estimates of change throughout this release are calculated using un-rounded index values. They may differ from, though are more accurate than, change calculated from rounded values.

• up 0.5% in the previous fortnight (to 13 November 2021)
