Key statistics

In June 2026, total wages and salaries paid by employers totalled $109,230 million,

  • increasing by 1.1% or $1,197 million in the month from May 2026
  • increasing by 5.7% or $5,859 million in the year from June 2025
  • representing payments to 15.5 million employee jobs

As a measure of aggregate earnings and employee jobs, estimates presented in this release include compositional changes in the labour market, which are described in more detail in Factors affecting interpretation.

Cessation of the Monthly Employee Earnings Indicator

In response to opportunities to further modernise the labour statistics program, the ABS will cease publishing the experimental Monthly Employee Earnings Indicator as of this issue.

The ABS remains committed to using STP data which will continue to be used internally to support compilation of earnings and employment estimates, as well as exploration of opportunities from expanded STP data.

Alternate earnings and employee measures are detailed in the earnings and employment guides.

National

Wages and salaries growth across April to June 2026 follows the seasonal pattern seen in previous years.

The fall in wages and salaries across April reflects the seasonal influence of the autumn term break and Easter holiday period, whereas the rise into June is due to increased business activity and cyclical bonus payments.
