This Collection Notice explains the collection of personal information by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) through the Business Survey Contact Form (BSCF). The BSCF is a voluntary form that aims to provide you with an additional way to update your contact details. It is also your way to contact the ABS if you have questions about the business survey you were selected for.
Purpose for which information is collected
To contact you about your survey enquiry we will collect the following personal information:
• your first and last name
• your telephone number
• your email address.
We may also collect the following additional information, if you choose to provide it:
• Australian Business Number
• Business or organisation name
• Business or organisation address
• Details for a secondary contact.
Where you provide personal or sensitive information, but it is irrelevant to your enquiry, we will only collect and use the relevant information. We will only use the additional information you provide to respond to your query, or to refer your enquiry to another ABS business unit to assist. We will manage any additional personal or sensitive information you provide in accordance with ABS policies and procedures and in accordance with the relevant legislation.
Who is collecting your personal information?
The ABS collects your personal information using Drupal as a processing platform. We manage this platform on premises and it is only accessed by authorised ABS staff in the secure ABS IT environment.
Storage and security of personal information
Personal information is stored in the secure ABS environment and managed in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988, its Australian Privacy Principles, other relevant legislation and the requirements of the ABS' legislative framework.
Use and disclosures
The ABS will only use your personal information to contact you about your enquiry, or to register, or update your contact details. If you have identified an alternative contact for your organisation, we may share the information in your enquiry with your organisation’s alternative contact. We will only share the information where there is a legitimate reason to do so. We will not share your details with anyone outside the ABS unless required or authorised by Australian law.
Retention of Personal Information
The relevant ABS business unit will manage the enquiry in accordance with the relevant legislation, including the retention and deletion of your personal and/or sensitive information.

information.
Privacy Complaints
The ABS Privacy Policy for Managing and Operating Our Business has information about how you can
make a complaint if you feel the ABS has not adequately protected your privacy. The Policy describes
how the ABS will respond to your complaint, and what you can do if you are not satisfied with our
response.
