The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) will be removing and republishing some data tables from the Consumer Price Index (CPI), January 2026 publication released on 25 February 2026.

We have found that the ‘Contribution to percentage change’ in five supporting tables from our analytical series have used old weights to calculate estimates.

None of the headline CPI figures are affected. This includes the headline measure of inflation, trimmed mean, indexes and index movements.

The impact is isolated to the listed tables and associated graph and table in our commentary for the January 2026 data.

The analytical tables to be republished are:

  • Table 4. CPI: Group, Sub-group and Expenditure Class Contribution to All Groups Annual percentage change, Weighted Average of Eight Capital Cities
  • Table 5. CPI: Group, Sub-group and Expenditure Class Contribution to All Groups Monthly percentage change, Weighted Average of Eight Capital Cities
  • Table 6. CPI: Analytical Series, Weighted Average of Eight Capital Cities
  • Table 14. CPI: Group, Sub-group and Expenditure Class, Contribution to All Groups Annual percentage change, by Capital City
  • Table 15. CPI: Group, Sub-group and Expenditure Class, Contribution to All Groups Monthly percentage change, by Capital City
  • Commentary Graph: CPI Groups, contribution to annual CPI movement (percentage points)
  • Commentary Table: Weighted average of eight capital cities

These tables will be removed from our website today (Thursday 26 February 2026).

We are working to republish this data tomorrow (Friday 27 February 2026).

We apologise to our affected users. We are working quickly to ensure accurate figures are made available.
