ABS to hold Census community information sessions on Norfolk Island

With the 2026 Census just over a month away, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) will be holding free community information sessions on Norfolk Island.    

Paul Jones, Census Manager for Norfolk Island, said: “Sessions will provide Norfolk Islanders with information about how they can participate in the Census. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions. 

“Information on key dates, support to complete the Census and how to return completed forms will also be provided.” 

Sessions will be held at the Governor’s Lodge conference room at 1:30pm, 3pm and 4:30pm, Wednesday 15 July.  

To attend an information session, email QLD.WMT@abs.gov.au with the subject line AMB902, Census Information Session – Norfolk Island. Please indicate what session is preferred, a second preference and the number of tickets required. 

ABS staff will visit Norfolk Island in August ahead of Census night, Tuesday 11 August.

  • The Census provides data across a range of topics including ancestry. Guidance on how to record Norfolk Island birth, ancestry and language will be included in information to residents and visitors on Norfolk Island for Census night.  
  • The Census is held every five years. Census night is Tuesday 11 August 2026. 
  • The Census is compulsory. Everyone in Australia on Census night, including Norfolk Island, must be included on a Census form. This includes visitors and visa holders.
