In the 2011 Census, there were 2,253,725 people in Rest of Qld of these 49.8% were male and 50.2% were female. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people made up 5.0% of the population.

The median age of people in Rest of Qld was 38 years. Children aged 0 - 14 years made up 20.4% of the population and people aged 65 years and over made up 14.4% of the population.

There were 1,092,788 people who reported being in the labour force in the week before Census night in Rest of Qld. Of these 59.1% were employed full time, 28.7% were employed part-time and 6.2% were unemployed.

Of employed people in Rest of Qld, 10.5% worked 1 to 15 hours, 8.7% worked 16 to 24 hours and 46.2% worked 40 hours or more.

The median age of people employed full-time in Rest of Qld was 41 years and for people who were employed part-time was 40 years.

The most common occupations in Rest of Qld included Technicians and Trades Workers 16.3%, Professionals 15.6%, Clerical and Administrative Workers 13.2%, Managers 12.5%, Labourers 11.9%, Community and Personal Service Workers 10.3%, Sales Workers 10.2% and Machinery Operators And Drivers 8.3%.

Of the employed people in Rest of Qld, the most common responses for industry of employment included School Education 5.3%, Cafes, Restaurants and Takeaway Food Services 4.1%, Hospitals 3.6%, Supermarket and Grocery Stores 2.6% and Accommodation 2.4%.

The median weekly personal income for people aged 15 years and over in Rest of Qld was $553.

In Rest of Qld, on the day of the Census, the most common methods of travel to work for employed people included Car, as driver 63.9%, Car, as passenger 6.7%, Walked only 4.3%, Bus 1.5% and Truck 1.4%. On the day, 2.5% of employed people used public transport (train, bus, ferry, tram/light rail) as at least one of their methods of travel to work and 70.8% used car (either as driver or as passenger).

Of people who did unpaid domestic work in the week before the Census in Rest of Qld, 25.8% worked 5 to 14 hours, 12.6% worked 15 to 29 hours and 11.3% worked 30 hours or more.

Family composition

Of the families in Rest of Qld, 40.8% were couple families with children, 41.7% were couple families without children and 16.1% were one parent families.

In Rest of Qld 18.0% of single parents were male and 82.0% were female.

People characteristics

In Rest of Qld, there were 113,189 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. Of these, 55,637 (or 49.2%) were male and 57,552 (or 50.8%) were female. The median age was 20 years.
