Overall, 38% of businesses introduced at least one type of innovation in 2014-15 with goods or services (19%) the most common type introduced.

Proportion of businesses that were innovating, by industry, 2014-15

By industry, Wholesale trade and Manufacturing had the highest proportion of innovating businesses (50%), while Transport, postal and warehousing had the lowest (20%).

Wholesale trade had the highest proportion of businesses with goods or services introduced (32%), while Manufacturing had the highest proportion of businesses that introduced operational processes (28%) and organisational/managerial processes (24%). The Accommodation and food services industry had the highest proportion of businesses that introduced marketing methods (26%).

The Transport, postal and warehousing industry had the lowest proportion of businesses that introduced goods or services (8%), organisational/managerial processes (8%) and marketing methods (5%). The Construction industry had the lowest proportion of businesses that introduced operational processes (10%).
