The ABS Account Login Interface (Okta) Collection Notice

The ABS account login interface (Okta) is an authentication service that allows users create an online account and login to complete surveys as requested by the ABS.

Collection

Your personal information is collected by the ABS via the Okta interface to logon, verify your identity and for potential future contact with you. The personal information includes:

  • First Name (optional)
  • Last Name (optional)
  • Email address
  • Phone number

Storage and Access

The collected information will be stored in secure data centres in Australia. ABS uses Okta Australia which is a cloud hosted software that uses Amazon Web Services (AWS) and meets all Australian Government privacy and data storage requirements.


The Privacy Notice for Okta explains how the ABS uses Okta and how Okta will collect, safeguard, and process your data on behalf of the ABS who are the data controllers.


All data is encrypted on entering and transferring information through the Okta system. Only authorised ABS staff can access any of the unencrypted information once it is transferred to the ABS secure environment. Personal information is stored in the secure ABS environment and managed in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles and the requirements of the ABS' legislative framework.

Use and Disclosure

The ABS will use your personal information to contact you for ABS related surveys and online account creation and management.


The ABS will not:

  • share information in a way that would identify you without your consent.
  • share information with private organisations, such as direct marketing companies.
  • share information with other government agencies for compliance or regulation activities.
     

Unless required or authorised by or under an Australian law.

Retention and Deletion

The ABS recognises that the retention and deletion of personal information is important to mitigate security risks. The ABS will be responsible for managing accounts in and will ensure the Okta system deletes personal information every 2 years from date account creation or inactivity.

The comply with the Privacy Act 1988 and the Archives Act 1983 in the storage, collection, access, use, disclosure,
retention and destruction of your personal information.
