Meat cattle are raised throughout NSW; the highest concentrations are in the Northern and North Western Statistical Divisions.

At 30 June 2004, the NSW meat cattle herd stood at 5.4 million.

In 2003-04, most meat cattle in NSW were found in the Northern Statistical Division (1.8 million). This was followed by the North Western Statistical Division with 665,600.
