Make history by making your answer count

National Family History Week is being celebrated across the country and The <<insert the Name of Your Organisation here e.g. Small Town Family History Association >> is urging everyone to make their answer to the last question in next week’s census really count.

<<insert name, and organisational title (e.g. Betty Bloggs, spokesperson for Small Town Family History Association) here >> said that Family History Week was the ideal time for families to discuss why everyone should answer “Yes, agrees” to the last question of the census.

“If everyone agrees to have the census information kept for 99 years, when the 2006 Census Time Capsule is opened in the year 2105 it will provide a wonderful source of information for people researching their family’s history,” said <<insert name>>.

“If people don’t agree to have their information kept, there won’t be a complete picture of Australia for our descendents and that would be a real shame.”

“When someone answers “Yes, agrees” it means their census record will be preserved on microfilm and held securely by the National Archives of Australia for release for research purposes in 99 years time”.

“It really is a chance for everyone in Australia to make history,” said <<insert name>>.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) will conduct the Census of Population and Housing on Tuesday 8 August 2006 and everyone has the option of agreeing to place their details in the Census Time Capsule.

2006 Census Time Capsule Project

The <<insert the Name of Your Organisation here e.g. Small Town Family History Association >> is urging everyone to agree to have their 2006 Census information retained and kept confidential for 99 years by the National Archives of Australia in what’s known as the Census Time Capsule.

According to <<insert name, and organisational title (e.g. Betty Bloggs, spokesperson for Small Town Family History Association) here >> when the 2006 Census Time Capsule is opened in the year 2105 it will provide a wonderful source of information for people researching their family’s history.

“Imagine how exciting it will be next century for our descendents to be able to look back at how we lived today and to be able to easily trace their family tree because of a decision each of us made in 2006,” said <<insert name>>.

In the 2001 Census over 52 percent of people in Australia gave their consent to have their census data stored securely for 99 years by the National Archives of Australia for release in the year 2100.

“We’re really wanting everyone in Australia to agree to have their census record placed in the time capsule this time as from a family history standpoint, the information is much better for future research purposes if the records are complete,” said << insert name>>.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) will conduct the Census of Population and Housing on Tuesday 8 August 2006 and everyone has the option of agreeing to place their details in the Census Time Capsule.
