The latest ABS Retail Trade figures show that Australian retail turnover rose 0.2% in December 2010, seasonally adjusted, following a rise of 0.4% the previous month. Household goods retailing (1.5%), Clothing, footwear and personal accessory retailing (2.7%) and Cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services (0.8%) recorded the largest rises in December 2010. Turnover fell in Food retailing (-0.5%), Other retailing (-0.8%) and Department stores (-1.2%). Turnover rose in Victoria (0.5%), New South Wales (0.4%), Queensland (0.3%) and the Northern Territory (0.2%). Turnover fell in South Australia (-1.3%), Tasmania (-1.3%), Western Australia (-0.2%) and the Australian Capital Territory (-0.5%). Trend turnover fell 0.1% in December 2010. This follows relatively flat results in November 2010 (0.0%) and October 2010 (0.0%). Trend turnover rose 1.9% in December 2010 compared with December 2009. Turnover volume fell 0.3%, seasonally adjusted, in the December quarter 2010.
