Changes to Confidentiality

Confidentiality changes have been applied to imports in the September 2017 reference month. The changes at the Harmonized System (HS) statistical code level include suppressing commodity details for 3 additional commodities spanning two Standard International Trade Classifications (SITC) and Balance of Payments Broad Economic Categories (BOPBEC), as set out in the table below and published in International Merchandise Trade: Confidential Commodities List, September 2017 (cat. no. 5372.0.55.001). These confidentialised items are included in SITC 98 and HS statistical code 9988888899. In addition, data in these categories has been perturbed this month.

Changes to the Customs Tariff import classification

The Customs Tariff Amendment (Incorporation of Proposal and Other Measures) Bill 2017 resulted in Customs Tariff changes, impacting import statistical codes in Chapters 29, 38 and 84. The changes led to some statistical codes closing on 12th September 2017 and other statistical codes opening on 13th September 2017. The changes have been updated in the Tariff Classification of Goods on the Department of Immigration and Border Protection website.

Please note, for the month of September 2017, data will be output for both the old and new statistical codes, depending upon when the import took place. If any of these items are of interest, it is important to check the data for both the old and new statistical codes. From the October 2017 month onwards, the statistical codes being replaced will no longer be output.
