Snapshot of ACT tourist accommodation: ABS Takings for ACT tourist accommodation increased by 30% to $145 million over the five years to 2004-05, according to new analysis released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) today. However, available bed spaces in ACT tourist accommodation fell by 10% from June 2000 to June 2005. This was the only decrease in bed spaces of all states and territories over this period. Room occupancy rates increased to 68.1% in ACT tourist accommodation in 2004-05, up from 63.0% in 1999-2000. This was above the national rate (62.8%), and the highest of all states and territories. ACT tourist accommodation employed 2,472 people at June quarter 2005, an increase of 9% from June quarter 2000.
