Purpose
To provide an indicative assessment of the journey times of some alternatives to the private car.

Description
This survey examines travel time efficiency of the car compared to alternative transport modes. A travel time survey was undertaken by NRMA and Bicycle NSW comparing the travel times of car, bicycle and public transport in the peak periods.

The survey involved collection of travel time information on six major routes into the Sydney CBD for six days over two weeks. The travel times for cars and bicycles were collected by physical surveys, whilst public transport times were determined using timetable information.

A similar survey was conducted for travel to Parramatta. See Parramatta Multimode Travel Time Survey.
