NSW has the highest number of sheep and lambs of any state. At 30 June 2005, the number of sheep and lambs in New South Wales was 34.3 million.

At 30 June 2005, most sheep and lambs in NSW were found in the Central West Statistical Division (6.6 million) followed by the North Western Statistical Division (5.8 million).
