NSW accounts for almost all of the Australian rice crop. Rice production is undertaken in three areas: the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area, the Coleambally Irrigation Area and the Murray Valley Irrigation Area. These three areas are in the Murrumbidgee and Murray Statistical Divisions.

In 2004-05, production was 335,000 tonnes.

In 2004-05, 55% of all rice produced in NSW came from the Murray Statistical Division (185,000 tonnes). This was followed by the Murrumbidgee Statistical Division with 151,000 tonnes.
