The 2012 survey estimated that 4.2 million Australians, or 18.5% of the population, had a disability.

In 2012, around 3.3 million Australians (14%) were aged 65 years or over. There were fewer older males (1.5 million or 6.6%) than older females (1.8 million or 7.7%).
