A MESSAGE FROM THE NSC DIRECTOR


Welcome to the service industries statistics newsletter. This newsletter provides information on recent service industries related issues and updates, describes ABS work related to service industries statistics, advises on recent ABS publications and informs users about forthcoming Service Industries publications.

Since the last newsletter we have completed an extensive consultation process for the development of the Community Services survey for the 2008-09 reference year. Broad specifications have now been developed for this survey. The next phase involving development of detailed survey specifications has also been completed. This phase involved translating the broad specifications into an operational model, testing and adjusting the model and continuously reviewing the alignment of the model in relation to the purpose. It is likely that many of you have assisted in testing questions and forms. I would like to thank all clients who have contributed.

We have also commenced work on a broader review of the industry statistics work-program as a whole. We will be seeking input from industry statistics users to assist in the shaping of the future industry program for the 2009-10 reference year onwards. Consultation sessions will be held in December 2008.

We would appreciate any feedback you would like to provide regarding the usefulness of the information presented in this newsletter.
